Vast The Crystal Caverns first impressions mini review

I finally had a chance to get my #kickstarter copy of #vastthecrystalcaverns from @ledergames and @geekrvl to the table this week. I have lots of thoughts on this very smart asymmetrical dungeon dive, but I’ll try to whittle them down to the key points.

First this game is a blast. It’s really cerebral & dripping with unique strategic decisions for each character. There are so many layers this game touches on because each character plays so differently. There is a ton of reply value here. Hand & resource management for the cave, hit & run tactics for the goblins, back stabbing for the thief… It’s so rich.

The components are exquisite, the theme is on point, and the game play is great. There is a bit of a learning curve for the first game. I really recommend watching the how to videos on Leder Games’ YouTube channel, and I also recommend setting aside a lot of time for the #Firstplay, which is definitely a #LearningGame session. But with that said my group is eager to get it back to the table & amp up their strategies now that the game mechanics are dialed in.

I’ll rate this a 9 out of 10. By far one of my favorite games for 2016 due to its richness. For more game reviews, check out http://ctoke.tumblr.com #bgg #boardgamegeek #boardgames #boardgamereview #gamenight (at Lakewood, Ohio)
